Should I receive Linux?

my dad won't permit me put internet on my computer because of all the crap the internet clogs into your computer. I hear Linux is basically immune to virus so there is smaller quantity crap. Also, how do you partition, so I don't loose adjectives of my windows stuff?

Should I receive Linux?

No operating system is truly immune from computer virus or other malware. The people who write that stuff choose to target users of Microsoft Windows because over 90% of computers run some reworked copy of that operating system. Of course, the design flaws that Microsoft introduced over the years created gaping security holes within Windows which made it easier for authors of malware to do their work. Rest assured that if the Macintosh or Linux gained significant bazaar share, they would become targets.

As for your cross-examine about using Linux to access the Internet, you might consider getting a bootable compact disc with a Live distribution of Linux such as Knoppix. Like plentiful Linux distros, it comes with a bunch of applications including OpenOffice (a Microsoft Office-compatible suite), the Firefox pattern browser, the Thunderbird e-mail client, and much more. You can download Knoppix from www.knoppix.net or you can proclaim a CD for a nominal allowance from vendors have links on the knoppix web site.
