It's on a USB Serial RS232 Adaptor, that i'm trying to get to work near XP.

I would take a stab and guess it's Prolific. They're big on USB controllers. Check for a chipset number on the card starting near PL-xxxx. If yes, then you can explore for or download your drivers from prolific.com. Older drivers are available elsewhere on the Internet.
