Video card doesn't respond to adapter, what is wrong?

I only just built a computer and have even so gotten to the BIOS screen. Computer boots up fine near one beep. But trying to digit out why when I don't have the monitor hooked up it say no signal (monitor is crt, has worked before) but when I try to hook up the video cable (with an dvi adapter) it blanks out. Is the video card fried or only just the adapter doesn't respond to it. I bought the adapter from best buy open box, so someone returned it but the video card is brand contemporary so I don't know if I fried it or not.

Video card doesn't respond to adapter, what is wrong?

i had equal problem with mine, it loads the bios and afterwards the manufacturer blind, then that's it won't nouns windows at adjectives, yeah, your video card is gone to the sh*tter. Might as well obtain a new one.
What is your video card's formulate and model? What is your power supply's wattage? Your card has individual DVI ouput, so it could be a powerful card and your power supply (esp. the +12V rail)may be inadequate.
